Big Ben's Kitchen: A Plan for Leche Flan!

Okay, let’s start off by talking about desserts. I’m a big fan of sweets; a meal is not a meal unless there’s dessert to cap it off. Living independently, I sought out neighborhood eateries around Imus, Cavite town proper and chanced upon this homey, quaint “kitchen”.
I know, I should be talking about their flagship dishes right? (This place is famous for their Imus longganisa* but more on that in another post) How about we talk about the underdog?

Big Ben’s Leche Flan.

I did a little research online. I found their outdated menu from Munch Punch (they really should update this, they have way more selections now!) and it included the leche flan.

Not updated at all.

They call it the CREAMY CUSTARD MACAPUNO PIE. And, it is priced at 50 pesos. (again, not updated!)
I went there last Saturday because I was too lazy to cook myself. I mean, it’s a Saturday! I deserve a treat. I walked to Big Ben’s for breakfast, ordered the usual but ended the meal with a loud BANG. I got the leche flan which is priced at 128 pesos.

Why is it priced like that? Well, it is a bountiful serving good for at least two to four people sharing. But, if you are like me or my brother Enzo (he is a complete leche flan addict!) who can withstand the sugar high of anything sweet, I think this one is perfect for you.
They serve it on a plate with evaporated milk drizzled on top.

I wasn’t able to take a photo of this but it has MACAPUNO strips embedded in the middle of the leche flan. Almost close to home, taking a bite of this will remind you of town fiestas and warm family gatherings.
Yes, I know glorious. Based on what I hear from my grandmothers who are cult  experts in making this yummy dessert, leche flan should not have any bubbles. This one has bubbles on the side but when I started eating the inside, it was smooth and creamy. Meh. Good enough for the price I paid. I’m not complaining. Thumbs up for this one Big Ben’s Kitchen! :-)
